hola , hice unas modificaciones en el archivo index,html pero al darle el comando git status git no me indica que se ayan realizado cambios

Me sucede lo mismo, por mas modificaciones que le agregue al archivo, me sigue apareciendo el mismo mensaje.
$ git status

No commits yet
Changes to be committed:
(use "git rm --cached <file>..." to unstage)
new file: index.html
